In June, I got an exciting DM to my sewing account. It was from Cashmerette, asking for my email so they could share some info about a possible collaboration. I was extremely hopeful it wasn't a bot impersonating my favorite pattern company, because I was so excited to hear from them! Sure enough it was real, and they invited me to be a Cashmerette Club collaborator for the next few months. That means I get to try their new patterns (they release one each month) a few weeks early.
The first pattern was the Truro swimsuit - a classic one-piece with a built-in foam bra. I haven't sewn swimwear since 2020, and it is not usually my favorite - but I felt an immediate spark with this pattern. I love the look of a one-piece swimsuit. Over the years I have tried some on in stores and ordered some online, but nothing ever feels supportive enough to actually wear. As soon as I started thinking about this pattern, sewjo that had been pretty quiet over the past year immediately sprang to life! Suddenly all I wanted to do was sew.
I sewed a test version that was a bit too tight, and learned the very important lesson that perhaps should have been obvious – sew the size that matches your measurements. In my excitement, I had skipped the step of grading between the sizes that matched my measurements, and sized down instead. Between that decision and a basting stitch that wasn't quite stretchy enough, I could barely get my test version on. For this version, I carefully graded the pieces and extended my stitch width for some extra stretch. It fits much better, and I love how it turned out!
